Course Objectives

Ø       This course is aimed at bolstering the technical level of Engineers through the understanding of current networking trends.

 

Ø       Training is provided to design, install and configure D-Link networking products for projects, bids and tenders.

 

Ø       A hands-on practical is used to familiarize the participant with the products.

 

Ø       The course helps the participants to be up-to-date with the latest developments in the D-Link products and be prepared for the same.

 

Ø       Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to design, install and configure the appropriate D-Link networking products.

Prerequisites

Ø       The participant should have a minimum of 2 years experience in networking
      field.


 

Ø       To fully benefit from this course, the participant should have a working knowledge of the listed technologies.

 

v       Working knowledge of:

 

ü                   The OSI reference model.

ü                   The differences between and functions of layer 2 and layer 3 devices

    (Switches and Routers)

 

ü                   Spanning tree protocol.

 

ü                   Inter-domain routing protocols (RIP, static routes).

 

Ø       In order to perform the practical lab exercises on the various D-Link products, each participant is advised to have the following personal hardware.

 

v       Personal Hardware:

 

ü                   Laptop with Windows 98 or Higher OS.

ü                   Ethernet network port.
 

ü                   CD-ROM drive.
 

ü                   DB9 Serial COM port.
 

ü                   USB 1.1 or higher port.
 

ü                   TFTP application.

v       Define the various Ethernet technologies i.e. 10Mbps,100Mbps, 1Gbps, 10Gbps

 

Ø       Describe the different D-Link Network Adapters and list their features

 

Ø       Introduction to Switching Technology.

 

v       Define the terms Full duplex, Auto-negotiation (Nway) and Auto-sensing

v       Describe the different types of Ethernet Switching i.e. Store-&-Forward, Cut through etc.

v       Define the terms Latency, Throughput, Buffer and MAC address capacity

v       Describe Stacking and Switch Management

v       Describe Port Trunking, VLANs, Asymmetric VLAN, Traffic Segmentation, STP/RSTP and                Port Mirroring

v       List the different steps used in conducting Wireless site survey

v       Describe the application of IEEE 802.3af Power Over Ethernet (POE) in WLAN
